She was a Porn Addict – until Something Happened

Popular British vlogger Oghosa Ovienrioba revealed to the world in a video posted to YouTube last year that she is a recovering porn addict — and now she’s hoping to help others embroiled in their own personal struggles against smut.

Ovienrioba, 22, said in the clip posted in February 2014 that she was abused at an early age and began watching porn regularly at age 15 or 16, which led to years of obsessively and secretly viewing smut, according to the Daily Mail.

In addition to discussing the abuse she faced during her younger years in a viral video last year, Ovienrioba, a Christian, said that she was extremely hesitant to share her experience with porn, but that she had two dreams that she felt were signs she was supposed to share what happened.

“God, I do not want to talk about this topic … I’m not doing it,” she recalled thinking after feeling compelled to share her story.

But she changed her mind after purportedly having a second dream imploring her to describe what happened.

“When I was about 15 or 16, I started watching porn much more regularly and this time it didn’t shock me as much,” Ovienrioba said. “The thing about porn is, it works on desensitizing.”

She said that, by the time she reached 21, she was watching porn every day, if not multiple times per day.

“When you see people, you don’t even see people anymore,” Ovienrioba said. “You see them as sex objects.”

….“Lots of people don’t think girls can suffer a porn addiction but it’s a problem for both sexes,” she said, according to the Daily Mail. “I hope I can help others out there — talking about your problem is the first step.”

She said that Christians should be careful about what they let into their hearts and minds, noting that she’s cautious about what she consumes.

Trapped in Vegetative State for 12 Years, Then He Awoke

It was the late 1980s. Martin Pistorious, only 12 years old at the time, was initially hospitalized with what doctors diagnosed as Cryptococci Meningitis. The boy’s condition quickly worsened, ultimately leaving him unable to move or speak.

Doctors ended up delivering heartbreaking news to the boy’s parents, telling them that their son’s time was limited and he would likely never be anything more than a vegetable. The parents were told by the hospital to keep Pistorious as comfortable as possible until he inevitably died, according to NPR.

Prepared for that unfathomably devastating outcome, the parents took their son home. But instead of dying, “Martin just kept going, just kept going,” Joan Pistorius, the boy’s mother, told NPR.

For 12 years, the parents took care of Pistorious, which was a serious undertaking. The boy’s dad, Rodney Pistorius, would wake up every morning to dress his son and take him to a special care center. He would then pick him up eight hours later, “bathe him, feed him, put him in bed, set my alarm for two hours so that I’d wake up to turn him so that he didn’t get bedsores.”

Throughout all those years, Martin Pistorious showed no signs of improvement and the parents had very little hope that their son would ever recover.

….But when Pistorious miraculously woke up, he claimed that he was “aware of everything” while trapped in a vegetative state…. “Yes, I was there, not from the very beginning, but about two years into my vegetative state, I began to wake up. I was aware of everything, just like any normal person,” Pistorious, now 39, recalled to NPR. “Everyone was so used to me not being there that they didn’t notice when I began to be present again. The stark reality hit me that I was going to spend the rest of my life like that — totally alone.”

….Pistorious now lives in Harlow, England, and has published a memoir about his incredible claims titled, “Ghost Boy: My Escape From a Life Locked Inside My Own Body.”
