Armed Patriots Stand With Bosworth Against Feds!

As you may have seen repeatedly across your newsfeeds and televisions the imagery of President Barack Obama walking the Selma bridge commemorating that historic moment when Martin Luther King led thousands to face off against police who would fire tear gas and beat them with clubs… all because they desired the right to vote.

That historical moment was 50 years ago… now… flash forward…Spokane Washington, the Federal Courthouse:

A story that wasn’t celebrated by the media – where no dignitaries cared to stand for a photo-op. instead American snipers would train their barrels on fellow Americans – Americans who chose to stand their ground and draw a line in the sand on friday March 6th 2015… it was a rally for the right to bear arms.

The rally was a response to the arrest of Anthony Bosworth a week earlier. He was arrested in front of his family, interrogated like a domestic terrorist then later released WITHOUT CHARGE because he had broken no laws. All because he had an unloaded rifle on his back.

A group calling themselves “LIBERTY FOR ALL” decided this would not stand and organized the Rally. However they would take it one step further… they would hold the rally at the courthouse – with loaded rifles.

According to Kit Lange, of the Patrick Henry Society, the rally was monitored by DHS helicopters, and undercover agents under the cold crosshairs of DHS snipers.

Pro-lifers plan sit-in at Boehner’s office: GOP inaction decried

3/10/2015 – Pro-life activist Jill Stanek is joining with the Christian Defense Coalition later this month to stage a sit-in on Capitol Hill over lack of action on a late-term abortion ban that was supposed to be passed in January.

The sit-in is scheduled for 11.a.m. EST on March 25 outside the office of House Speaker John Boehner.

At issue is the GOP leadership’s handling of the “Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act,” which bans abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy but includes exceptions for victims of rape and incest.

Stanek, a former nurse, rose to national prominence after confronting then-Illinois State Sen. Barack Obama over his opposition to legislation that would require medical personnel to take every measure possible to save the life of a baby born alive after an attempted abortion.

Learn how to build an “Abortion Free” America one community at a time in this brand-new, autographed book

She said personal experience drove her to speak up then, and it drives her now.

“I, as a nurse at a hospital in Chicago, held an abortion survivor for 45 minutes until he died, and he was 21 weeks old,” she said. “An abortion ban such as this would save babies like I held. This is very real to me. I have actually seen and held the babies that the House is just playing around with willy-nilly right now.”

The bill was supposed to be voted on Jan. 22 in conjunction with the anniversary of the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision to legalize abortion and while Washington was filled with pro-life activists for the annual March for Life. Stanek said the concept is very simple.

“It is a ban on abortion past 20 weeks,” she explained. “It is known that by 20 weeks, and probably before, children feel pain. When they are aborted at 20 weeks, they are literally drawn and quartered. They’re just ripped apart, limb by limb. So this ban would make it a federal offense [and] ban abortions past 20 weeks.”

But the bill, which sailed through the House with a smaller Republican majority in the previous Congress, never received a vote….

Protesters to shut down Homan Square in Chicago Saturday

Nationwide opposition to the Chicago Police’s secret detention facility known as Homan Square is growing rapidly.

It was revealed last week that the CPD is using CIA-like tactics on suspected criminals and American dissidents — denying them of due process and basic rights.

Since then, a massive movement to shut down Homan Square has grown online and in Chicago, as well as around the country.

Several hundred concerned residents of Chicago brought Homan Square to a standstill over the weekend, and as many as 1,500 or more are expected to shut it down this coming Saturday. The event will take place at Homan Square at 12:00 pm CST. More info here.

Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, activists who are seeking justice over the LAPD’s violent slaying of a man known as Africa, are also holding a protest on Saturday at 12 pm PST at the LAPD headquarters. More info on that event can be found….

Hundreds of Farmers Block Roads Protesting Monsanto

Poland’s largest farmer uprising ever has occurred as convoys of tractors took to the roads recently in protest of GMO infiltration and land grabs by biotech and Big Ag corporations.

More than 150 farmers blocked roadways and held numerous demonstrations in order to bring attention to the important issue of food sovereignty in Poland. Their focus is a ban on GMOs and a restoration of small farmer’s rights after decades of oppressive health and safety regulations which take rights away from small farms and give them to mono-cropping, poisoning Big Ag mega-companies.

The farmers have been stalwart – refusing to call off their demonstrations until their demands are met. Rallies and demonstrations have littered the country – in over 50 locations. Hundreds are picketing government offices in addition to the road blockades.

In the largest organized farmer’s protest the country has likely ever seen, the farmers are demanding that legislators protect the small farmer from exploitation by monopolizing companies and refuse the sell off of their country’s land to these behemoths. As the farmers point out, once the land is sold, the Big Ag model can’t be stopped, and the land is forever lost….

There are 4 simple key demands the farmers would like to be heard:
•Regulation of land grabs by primarily Western companies (translation – biotech and Big Ag) to prevent small farmers from losing their livelihoods.
•The legalization of direct sale of produce and other foods from farms to the people. This cuts out the middle man and allows the higher quality produce of many farms to reach its customers directly. Poland currently has some of the most extreme policies of all of Europe in this regard, making it nearly impossible for small farmers to compete with big food companies who are notorious for selling us fake and highly processed foods.
•Change inheritance laws so that families can rightly leave land under lease to their heirs.
•BAN THE CULTIVATION OF GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS!

One farmer stated:“We demand the introduction of legislation that will protect Polish land from exploitation by foreign capital! Agricultural land cannot be sold to commercial companies. It’s part of Polish territory. Once sold it will be lost….

Washington State Patriots Prepare To Be Arrested

Liberty activists and gun owners organized by Liberty for All and The Patriots Stand are converging at the WA State Capitol in Olympia on Saturday at a rally meant to protest and violate new rules imposed by the legislature banning open carry in public viewing galleries.

The Washington State Patrol is expected to arrest anyone entering the viewing chambers openly carrying a firearm, although individuals with a concealed pistol license will be allowed to carry concealed weapons into the chambers.

“If the legislature feels the need,” said Sam Wilson of Liberty for All, “to prohibit peaceful citizens from openly carrying firearms into the people’s viewing chamber, it certainly makes a reasonable person question what motivates them to disarm the people viewing them while they are in session, serving as the representatives of the people.”

The activists have expressed firm resolve to enter the chambers while openly carrying, but have made it clear they are planning a peaceful event, and have no animosity towards the Washington State Patrol….

The organizers have invited anyone to attend who wants to participate in the peaceful act of civil disobedience, but have stressed in a public statement that: “If you attempt to harass and/or assault the WSP, we will not support you. You will be arrested, and you will be on your own.”

Any and all citizens who understand the Second Amendment’s necessity and the right of the people are encouraged to attend, with or without a firearm….

When you woke up this morning, the last thing on your mind was probably the state of your gun rights. Maybe you own a gun, maybe you’ve never even held one. Maybe you use your gun to feed your family, shoot skeet on the weekends, or just keep in the closet for a time when you think you might need it. Some of you train with it, carry it daily, and it is simply another thing you grab in the morning along with your wallet and your keys. Whatever your familiarity with guns is does not matter. You don’t even have to like guns, don’t have to want them in your home. There are two facts that anyone familiar with history knows:

1) Before a regime commits horrific acts against its people, it first ensures the people have no guns to fight back with.

2) The freedom that you live under was paid for by a group of colonists who used their guns.

The Ottomans murdered over 1 million people between 1915-1917, after passing laws disarming the people. In 1918, Russia passed the first of its own gun control laws, demanding licensing of gun owners and later banning possession of them at all. From 1929-1945, the government murdered 20 million people. In 1928, Germany passed the Law on Firearms and Ammunition, followed by other gun laws in 1938.

Once the people were disarmed, they passed the Regulations Against Jews, opening the door for the barbaric slaughter of the Holocaust….

As you read this, there is a group of patriots in Washington who are standing up. On February 7th, they will stand for a third time in as many months against unjust laws meant to strip them of their right to defense. In fact, on the 7th they will stand against a state legislature that has said the people are not allowed to openly carry a firearm while viewing the proceedings of their own government. Think about that. The very people we elected, do not want their armed constituents to watch them at work, to see the things they do and say. The real question is what are they doing that they have to be afraid of the people?

These patriots will be arrested on the 7th, because some of them will choose while there to defy the unjust and tyrannical laws being forced on them. What awful thing will they be doing? Walking into a public gallery with a rifle slung over their shoulder. They are not monsters, or crazy gun nuts. They are Americans like you, who love their families and go to work and pay bills. They are Americans who value liberty more than anything else.

They are choosing liberty over peaceful slavery, and they are doing it because someone has to. But they are not standing for just Washington, they stand for all of you. Whether you live in Iowa or California, Maine or Wyoming, it is YOUR right to self-defense that patriots will defend on February 7th. They are being arrested to show that the right of you and your family to refuse to be a slave, is more important than their own comfort.

It no longer matters if you’re a gun owner or not, or if you hunt, or if you think guns are scary and don’t want one. Your continued liberty depends on someone other the government having all the guns, and if it’s not you, then someone else needs to stand. Right now patriots who don’t know you, don’t know your story, don’t even know if you support them or not, are getting ready to stand up for you and your babies. In fact, they’ll be standing to defend your right to call them extremists and….

We are standing for your liberty, no matter the cost. We call upon the patriots of this state and this nation to stand with us before it’s too late.

Join the protest at the Washington State Capitol at 10 AM Sat. Feb. 7th , in Olympia.

Law Has Been Murdered

Barrett Brown, Kathy Kelly, and Bonny Mahoney are the kind of people who are imprisoned in America. It is not the perjurers and liars, the torturers, war criminals and mass murderers. It is the good people who peacefully protest the crimes of those who control the US government and its policies.

Since around 1990 I have studied and reported on cases that have resulted in the erosion of the protective features in law that made law a shield of the people instead of a weapon in the hands of the government. Barrett Brown’s statement to the Judge in his show trial shows that the US Department of Justice has been successful in preventing the system from delivering any justice. The US Court system delivers support for the government’s crimes. That’s it.

Brown’s statement shows how the system works. The government brings false charges against you or they bring charges that are not illegal under law as understood. However, prosecutors invent new interpretations of laws and judges and juries accept legislation-by-prosecutor-to-fit-the-made-up-case. Almost never is a jury involved, not that jurors show any inclination to go against the government’s case. However, prosecutors only face that unlikely risk in 3 or 4 percent of the cases. All other cases are settled on the basis of self-incrimination. The prosecutor tells the defendant and his attorney, “you can admit to this and that and have a sentence of 5 or 10 years. Otherwise, we are indicting you with 105 offenses with imprisonment of at least one lifetime.

Read Brown’s statement to the judge. This young man describes perfectly how the so-called “criminal justice system” actually works. I have seen it time after time in cases I have investigated. Read “The Tyranny of Good Intentions”.

http://www.globalresearch.ca/journalist-barrett-brown-sentenced-to-63-months-in-prison-for-linking-to-hacked-material-read-his-speech-here/5426421

Kathy Kelly and Bonny Mahoney were sentenced to prison for stepping across the perimeters of Air Force bases in peaceful protests against murder-by-drone. There was no real reason for charges to be brought against them or for a judge to sentence them to prison except to continue to make it crystal clear that the US government tolerates no dissent.

http://warisacrime.org/content/hancock-drone-resister-convicted-unexpected-new-charge

A democracy protected by free speech would permit these demonstrations, but the US is not a democracy and does not have free speech. That is the fact that Barrett Brown, Kathy Kelly and Bonny Mahoney are proving….

What Brown, Kelly, and Mahoney are in fact proving is that the US is lawless in the sense that law serves only the government and its agenda. In America law no longer has any other meaning. There is no rule of law. We are ruled by the government’s agenda.

Duke Recants, Cancels Muslim Call to Prayer from Chapel

Duke University has abandoned its plan to transform the bell tower on the Methodist school’s neo-gothic cathedral into a minaret where the Muslim call to prayer was to be publicly broadcast.

“Duke remains committed to fostering an inclusive, tolerant and welcoming campus for all of its students,” university spokesman Michael Schoenfeld said in a statement. “However, it was clear that what was conceived as an effort to unify was not having the intended effect.”

The first adhan, or call to prayer, had been scheduled to be broadcast on Jan. 16. University officials said, the Islamic chant, which includes the words “Allahu Akbar” would have been “moderately amplified” — in both English and Arabic.

However, the decision brought a firestorm of national criticism from a number of high profile leaders including Franklin Graham, the son of famed evangelist Billy Graham.

“This is a Methodist school and the money for that chapel was given by Christian people over the years so that the student body would have a place to worship the God of the Bible,” Graham told me in a telephone interview.

He had called for university donors to pull their funding – (and I suspect that had something to do with Duke’s decision.)

Instead, the prayers will be moved to outside the chapel.

Franklin Graham urges financial revolt against Duke University

RALEIGH, N.C.(AP) – Duke University says it will hold a weekly call-to-prayer chant for Muslims from the bell tower at its famous chapel, a move that has drawn the ire of evangelist Franklin Graham.

The school said in a news release that members of the school’s Muslim Students Association will recite the call lasting about three minutes from the bell tower, and that it will be moderately amplified. The call to prayer coincides with the group’s prayer service in the chapel.

The chapel’s associate dean for religious life, Christy Lohr Sapp, says the move shows the school’s commitment to religious pluralism. The university was founded by Methodists and Quakers and its divinity school has historically been connected to the United Methodist Church.

Graham urged Duke alumni to withhold support because of violence against Christians that he attributed to Muslims.

FBI Commands FAA To Ground (censor) Florida Family Association Aircraft With Banner That Stated ‘AIG SPONSORS JIHAD TV’

The Federal Aviation Administration, pursuant to FBI orders, grounded the aircraft that Florida Family Association paid to pull a banner which stated “AIG Sponsors Jihad TV” around MetLife Stadium.

The FAA has stated that they lost the control tower audio recording of this act of censorship after receiving a Freedom of Information Act request.

However, the FAA provided a written account of the event in which they verified the FBI’s actions and stated in part “The Front Line Manager (FLM) disclosed he could not recall ever requesting any other aircraft to leave the area.”

The FBI has been unresponsive to numerous communications that requested a reason as to why their agency commanded the FAA to order the grounding of the aircraft.

The FLM’s statement that “he could not recall ever requesting any other aircraft to leave the area” unmistakably means the federal government censored Florida Family Association.

Did an AIG official ask an FBI official to ground the plane? Could the FBI have deleted the audio recording of the conversation between the control tower and pilot given the FAA’s finger pointing letter?

Florida Family Association tapes ten hours of programming on Al Jazeera America every day and communicates with each advertiser.

Top advertisers are featured in articles at floridafamily.org. One Hundred Ninety Seven (197) out of Two Hundred Twenty One (221) companies have stopped advertising on Al Jazeera America.

(AIG) is the only Fortune 500 company that has advertised on Al Jazeera America during the past fifteen months. Florida Family Association decided to use aircraft banners to publicize AIG’s ardent support for Al Jazeera America after the company ignored thousands of emails from concerned consumers.

Westboro Baptist Church protesters sent fleeing NBA game

Westboro Baptist Church protesters were likely in for more than they bargained for on Saturday when their planned picket outside of a Portland Trail Blazers game was met by a massive group of boisterous counter-protesters.

After about 20 members of the infamous anti-gay church arrived at Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, to lambaste the team’s support for same-sex marriage, hundreds of their opponents were already on site ready to greet them, according to the Oregonian.

The two sides unsurprisingly clashed, with the situation seeming tense at moments; one counter protester reportedly tried to grab one of Westboro’s placards and others screamed at the church members, telling them to “get out.”

Video footage purporting to capture the incident shows people following church members back to their vehicle, with countless protesters surrounding the van and screaming as Westboro members attempted to drive away.

Westboro had reportedly intended to protest for 75 minutes, but only stayed on site for about 20 minutes before leaving due to the pushback, with KOIN-TV reporting that the counterinitiative “overwhelmed” the anti-gay protesters.

The church had announced its plans to protest at the Trail Blazers game in a press release on its website earlier this month, citing the NBA team’s open endorsement of gay marriage last year as its main reason for picketing.

March for Life unveils theme for ’15 event

The 43rd annual March for Life has chosen a special theme this year.

The upcoming March marks the January 22nd anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe vs Wade decision which legalized abortion in the United States. Since then, over 57 million children have died in the womb.

March for Life (2013)Jeanne Mancini, who heads the organization, says the theme this year draws attention to a special problem related to an abortion-versus-life decision. The theme is “Every Life is a Gift,” which focuses on children who have are diagnosed with a disability in the womb and are aborted at what she calls a “high disproportionate rate.”

That includes babies who are aborted because of Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida, Anencephaly and other conditions. In those cases, the abortion rate ranges from 60 to 90 percent, and prenatal diagnoses play a large role in those decisions.

The annual March for Life Rally is from noon-1pm on Thursday, January 22, 2015 and as customary, will be on the National Mall. The March begins immediately after the Rally and follow its route up Constitution Avenue to the U.S. Supreme Court Building on Capitol Hill.

Patriots Stage Largest Felony Civil Disobedience Rally in History

While protests, rallies and downright racebaiting thuggery take place in cities like New York and Ferguson, a peaceful rally took place in America. However, the irony in all of it was that each one of the between 1000 and 3000 in attendance were fully armed law-abiding citizens to protest the new I-594 pretended legislation that passed in Washington State. But they weren’t just protesting, they gathered together to violate the newly passed “law” openly.

Prior to the rally, which was dubbed the “I will not Comply” rally, there had been over 6,000 RSVPs. However, on December 13, 2014, over 1,000 Washington residents descended on the state capitol of Olympia, amid cold and fog, in protest to defy I-594, a gun regisration “law” backed by the likes of Michael Bloomberg and Bill Gates.

According to Organizer Gavin Seim, this was to be no ordinary protest.

“This is not simply a protest,” he wrote. “We will openly exchange, buy and sell and trade guns and start a plan to break apart this legislation and violate i-594 in every possible way. Because ALL law that violates the Constitution is not law, it is VOID!”

Mr. Seim even refused to obtain a permit to exercise his God-given rights protected under the First Amendment to freely protest (freedom of speech) his government.

Interestingly enough, the Washington State Patrol said that they would not be arresting anyone for exchanging or selling their guns.

Seim led the protest in a time of prayer and then in a Pledge of Allegiance. However, Seim said, “I am not pledging obedience to the government, it is to the Republic. We don’t ask for our rights, and we don’t negotiate for our rights. We will take America back.”

His speech was followed by Mike Vanderboegh of the Three Percenter movement, who said, “”We no longer consent nor comply.”

Reminiscent of the American colonists who took up arms against Britain after the British had heavy-handedly tried to crush the Colonists into submission in a variety of ways, finally attempting to take their arms, Vanderboegh declared,

“This is the tyranny the Founding Fathers warned us about. Tyranny can be voted into existence by a majority. We will not fire the first shot, but if need be, we will fire the last.”

Many engaged in what was predicted as the day of burn barrels, similar to those in New York following the passage of the NY SAFE Act, as they pledged themselves to liberty.

Truth and Action reported, “At the end of the rally, gun owners burned their concealed weapons permits and signed a petition vowing to refuse to follow the new gun control law. The petition ended with the text, ‘We pledge our blood. We will not comply.’”

….Another rally took place on December 20 following comments by a Spokane Sheriff’s deputy about needing an MRAP to deal with Constitutionalists. Still another is scheduled for January 15 in Olympia.

Spokane Police Department Faces Protest Over Sheriff Deputy’s Shocking Comments

The Spokane Valley Police Department is facing protests over a viral video in which a Sheriff’s Deputy defended the use of an MRAP armored vehicle by saying it was needed to deal with the threat posed by “constitutionalists”.

The video, exclusively obtained by Infowars.com, prompted thousands of comments and a 9 minute video response from Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich in which he claimed that the video was being taken out of context.

The footage shows a Spokane Valley resident asking why police need vehicles that are designed for fighting foreign enemies abroad.

“I mean, we’ve got a lot of constitutionalists and a lot of people that stockpile weapons, lots of ammunition,” one deputy says. “They have weapons here locally.”

Spokane Valley Republican Representative Matthew Shea responded to the video by asking, “Will law abiding citizens who love the Constitution and Rule of Law be hunted down with MRAPs?”

“Constitutionalism is fundamental to being an American. To hate the Constitution and those who support it means you are a traitor to this country,” added Shea.

Sheriff Knezovich shot back by claiming the Infowars report was “hatemongering,” “misleading,” and that it was “used to scare citizens and distort the truth.”

Instead of apologizing for the comments made by his deputy, Sheriff Knezovich essentially blamed Infowars for daring to report on the issue, claiming that the quote was taken out of context while failing to explain how such a brazen statement could be taken for anything other than its face value.

Politicians Walk Out On Atheist’s “Secular Prayer”

A politician in Lake Worth, Florida, is breaking her silence one week after she joined others in abruptly and silently walking out of a city meeting before an atheist delivered his secular invocation.

Mayor Pam Triolo was joined by three commissioners in exiting the room in protest last Tuesday after Preston Smith stood up and took the podium to deliver his brief remarks.

It wasn’t until Monday, though, that Triolo offered an explanation to WPTV-TV.

“I didn’t leave because Mr. Smith is an atheist, I left because of his alleged tweet,” she said, referencing an offensive social media message that Smith is said to have sent over the summer. “Free speech works both ways. You can say what you want and I can choose to leave.”

But commissioner Christopher McVoy, who stayed through the invocation, said that he disagreed with his peers’ decision to exit the room, calling it “very un-American.”

Hundreds of protesters shut down trains & Interstate 80 near Berkeley

Demonstrators took to the streets of Berkeley, California for yet another march Monday night to protest the police-related deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner.

The march brought traffic to a crawl on both directions of Interstate 80 just before 9pm local time, as hundreds of protesters walked out onto the freeway.

Police were eventually able to break up the group, but cops and protesters faced off again on a pedestrian bridge stretching across the major thoroughfare.

The downtown Berkeley BART station was also shut down, and protesters in nearby Emeryville were pictured dramatically laying down on the tracks in front of Amtrak trains.

Monday’s protest follows two nights of violence and vandalism in Berkeley and Oakland, as a few rogue demonstrators broke into local businesses to loot and the California Highway Patrol deployed tear gas to combat some protesters who attacked the cops with explosives.

Eleven protesters were arrested in marches on Saturday and Sunday and appeared for their first arraignments Monday afternoon.

Activists in the Bay Area have been holding marches every night since last Wednesday, when a State Island grand jury decided not to indict the NYPD officer responsible for killing Garner with an illegal chokehold.

On Sunday, opportunistic thieves joined the demonstrations and broke into a RadioShack to loot the store for pricey gadgets.

Arrest Me! I Will NOT Comply!

A mass protest will take place once the law is certified, daring authorities to enforce the law as more than 5,600 gun owners have pledged to pass firearms to one another in a mass demonstration to show the absurdity of the law, which now classifies such hand-offs as felony gun crimes.

This is practically unheard of in the modern era; not only will 5,500 people deliberately violate the law through civil disobedience, but will violate felony gun laws. Washington is one of few remaining blue states that has remained friendly to gun owners, and so gun owners are furious that a handful of billionaires were able to come in and buy the election, contributing about half the $10 million poured into the race to support I-594, almost 10 times as much as the opposition. Unsuccessful at getting the legislature to pass the law, gun control proponents resorted to billionaires to push it through instead as an initiative. Their money provided the resources to afford to run continuous misleading ads on TV.

The Facebook page for “I-594 I Will Not Comply” states, “We will rally at the capitol, openly exchange guns, unveil and plan to break apart the entire legislation and violate I-594 in every possible way … We will buy and sell guns from whom we please, we will not submit to background checks, we will not give up our rights, WE WILL NOT comply.”

Under I-594, transferring a gun to someone in most situations – such as loaning your gun to a family member or friend at the range – will constitute a felony. Most gun owners have transferred their gun at one point to a friend or relative to try shooting. One-third of Washington state residents are gun owners. Considering the population of Washington is about 7 million, that means as many as 2.3 million gun owners could now be felons for doing what they have commonly done in the past.

Colorado, Connecticut, and New York have likewise passed blatantly unconstitutional gun laws in the past year, which has resulted in mass non-compliance, with less than 10% of gun owners registering their firearms and magazines in Connecticut and New York, and with Colorado residents simply ignoring laws on purchasing standard capacity magazines and mandated “universal” background checks.

The Imperative of Revolt

By Chris Hedges – OpEdNews.com –

I met with Sheldon S. Wolin in Salem, Ore., and John Ralston Saul in Toronto and asked the two political philosophers the same question. If, as Saul has written, we have undergone a corporate coup d’etat and now live under a species of corporate dictatorship that Wolin calls “inverted totalitarianism,” if the internal mechanisms that once made piecemeal and incremental reform possible remain ineffective, if corporate power retains its chokehold on our economy and governance, including our legislative bodies, judiciary and systems of information, and if these corporate forces are able to use the security and surveillance apparatus and militarized police forces to criminalize dissent, how will change occur and what will it look like?

Wolin, who wrote the books “Politics and Vision” and “Democracy Incorporated,” and Saul, who wrote “Voltaire’s Bastards” and “The Unconscious Civilization,” see democratic rituals and institutions, especially in the United States, as largely a facade for unchecked global corporate power. Wolin and Saul excoriate academics, intellectuals and journalists, charging they have abrogated their calling to expose abuses of power and give voice to social criticism; they instead function as echo chambers for elites, courtiers and corporate systems managers. Neither believes the current economic system is sustainable. And each calls for mass movements willing to carry out repeated acts of civil disobedience to disrupt and delegitimize corporate power.

“If you continue to go down the wrong road, at a certain point something happens,” Saul said during our meeting Wednesday in Toronto, where he lives. “At a certain point when the financial system is wrong it falls apart. And it did. And it will fall apart again.”

“The collapse started in 1973,” Saul continued. “There were a series of sequential collapses afterwards. The fascinating thing is that between 1850 and 1970 we put in place all sorts of mechanisms to stop collapses which we can call liberalism, social democracy or Red Toryism. It was an understanding that we can’t have boom-and-bust cycles. We can’t have poverty-stricken people. We can’t have starvation. The reason today’s collapses are not leading to what happened in the 18th century and the 19th century is because all these safety nets, although under attack, are still in place. But each time we have a collapse we come out of it stripping more of the protection away. At a certain point we will find ourselves back in the pre-protection period. At that point we will get a collapse that will be incredibly dramatic. I have no idea what it will look like. A revolution from the left? A revolution from the right? Is it violence followed by state violence? Is it the collapse of the last meaningful edges of democracy? Is it a sudden decision by a critical mass of people that they are not going to take it anymore?”

This devolution of the economic system has been accompanied by corporations’ seizure of nearly all forms of political and social power. The corporate elite, through a puppet political class and compliant intellectuals, pundits and press, still employs the language of a capitalist democracy. But what has arisen is a new kind of control, inverted totalitarianism, which Wolin brilliantly dissects in his book, “Democracy Incorporated.”

Inverted totalitarianism does not replicate past totalitarian structures, such as fascism and communism. It is therefore harder to immediately identify and understand. There is no blustering demagogue. There is no triumphant revolutionary party. There are no ideologically drenched and emotional mass political rallies. The old symbols, the old iconography and the old language of democracy are held up as virtuous. The old systems of governance — electoral politics, an independent judiciary, a free press and the Constitution — appear to be venerated. But, similar to what happened during the late Roman Empire, all the institutions that make democracy possible have been hollowed out and rendered impotent and ineffectual.

The corporate state, Wolin told me at his Oregon home, is “legitimated by elections it controls.” It exploits laws that once protected democracy to extinguish democracy; one example is allowing unlimited corporate campaign contributions in the name of our First Amendment right to free speech and our right to petition the government as citizens. “It perpetuates politics all the time,” Wolin said, “but a politics that is not political.” The endless election cycles, he said, are an example of politics without politics, driven not by substantive issues but manufactured political personalities and opinion polls. There is no national institution in the United States “that can be described as democratic,” he said.

The mechanisms that once allowed the citizen to be a participant in power….

Protesters carry firearms into Walmart where cop gunned down black man over toy gun

From Raw Story –

Gun enthusiasts openly carried firearms Sunday in to an Ohio Walmart store where police fatally shot a black man holding a toy rifle.

About 40 open-carry activists protested the Aug. 5 police shooting of 22-year-old John Crawford III at the Beavercreek retailer after a grand jury declined last month to charge the officer who killed him.

In addition to weapons, the demonstrators carried signs that said “I am John Crawford” and “Serve and Protect. Not Serve to Kill.”

Another shopper, Ronald Ritchie, spotted Crawford carrying the unboxed air pellet rifle and called 911 to report a possible threat.

Ritchie told dispatchers Crawford was pointing the weapon at shoppers, but after viewing surveillance video with prosecutors, he claimed the slain man had merely been waving the gun around.

The open carry of firearms is legal in Ohio, and the demonstrators said they wanted to remind police and residents of the law.
