Why Our Children Don’t Think There Are Moral Facts

What would you say if you found out that our public schools were teaching children that it is not true that it’s wrong to kill people for fun or cheat on tests? Would you be surprised?

I was. As a philosopher, I already knew that many college-aged students don’t believe in moral facts. While there are no national surveys quantifying this phenomenon, philosophy professors with whom I have spoken suggest that the overwhelming majority of college freshmen in their classrooms view moral claims as mere opinions that are not true or are true only relative to a culture.

A misleading distinction between fact and opinion is embedded in the Common Core.

What I didn’t know was where this attitude came from. Given the presence of moral relativism in some academic circles, some people might naturally assume that philosophers themselves are to blame. But they aren’t. There are historical examples of philosophers who endorse a kind of moral relativism, dating back at least to Protagoras who declared that “man is the measure of all things,” and several who deny that there are any moral facts whatsoever. But such creatures are rare. Besides, if students are already showing up to college with this view of morality, it’s very unlikely that it’s the result of what professional philosophers are teaching. So where is the view coming from?

A few weeks ago, I learned that students are exposed to this sort of thinking well before crossing the threshold of higher education. When I went to visit my son’s second grade open house, I found a troubling pair of signs hanging over the bulletin board. They read:

Fact: Something that is true about a subject and can be tested or proven.

Opinion: What someone thinks, feels, or believes.

Hoping that this set of definitions was a one-off mistake, I went home and Googled “fact vs. opinion.” The definitions I found online were substantially the same as the one in my son’s classroom. As it turns out, the Common Core standards used by a majority of K-12 programs in the country require that students be able to “distinguish among fact, opinion, and reasoned judgment in a text.” And the Common Core institute provides a helpful page full of links to definitions, lesson plans and quizzes to ensure that students can tell the difference between facts and opinions.

So what’s wrong with this distinction and how does it undermine the view that there are objective moral facts?

First, the definition of a fact waffles between truth and proof — two obviously different features. Things can be true even if no one can prove them. For example, it could be true that there is life elsewhere in the universe even though no one can prove it. Conversely, many of the things we once “proved” turned out to be false. For example, many people once thought that the earth was flat. It’s a mistake to confuse truth (a feature of the world) with proof (a feature of our mental lives). Furthermore, if proof is required for facts, then facts become person-relative. Something might be a fact for me if I can prove it but not a fact for you if you can’t. In that case, E=MC2 is a fact for a physicist but not for me.

But second, and worse, students are taught that claims are either facts or opinions. They are given quizzes in which they must sort claims into one camp or the other but not both. But if a fact is something that is true and an opinion is something that is believed, then many claims will obviously be both. For example, I asked my son about this distinction after his open house. He confidently explained that facts were things that were true whereas opinions are things that are believed. We then had this conversation….

Children Taken by CPS Wind Up in Sex Trafficking

Child Protective Services agencies are intended to take care of children with nowhere else to go, but corruption has infiltrated the government custodial system — putting kids at great risk. National Safe Child founder Tammi Stefano takes a look at the problem and reveals cases of CPS children who ended up working in the growing human sex trafficking trade in this short clip from the full length Buzzsaw interview with Sean Stone.

Are children taken away by CPS winding up in the sex trafficking trade?

If so, how is that possible? Isn’t Child Protective Services about wrenching children away from their parents in order to “protect” them from harm?

In these cases, apparently not.

According to the video, human trafficking busts have turned up that large quantities of victims who are actually wards of the state — via CPS.

Gov’t admits vaccines cause polio, seizures and death

Those crazy anti-vaxxers, always listening to Jenny McCarthy, Google, “random anti-vaccine web commenters and .. the U.S. government? That’s right, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has a section on its National Vaccine Injury Compensation (NVIC) Program website entitled “Vaccine Injury Table” that openly lists all the severe injuries and conditions that can occur from vaccinations, including things like brain damage, paralytic polio and death!

It must be the federal government pranking us with that pesky chain email we’re constantly hearing about in the mainstream media and on late-night “comedy” television — you know, that mythical piece of digital spam from which all anti-vaxxers decide not to vaccinate their children. Because there’s never existed one single shred of evidence showing that vaccines are in any way harmful, we’re constantly told, so this must be another one of Dr. Andrew Wakefield’s “discredited” studies, right?

Not exactly. The NVIC’s Vaccine Injury Table is an open admission by the government that vaccines harm and kill children. It exists to placate parents of vaccine-injured children who, having no access to the actual legal system in pursuing justice against vaccine manufacturers, have to present any evidence they can gather on their own (often without the help of their doctors) to the kangaroo “vaccine court,” which was created to shield the drug and vaccine industries from liability when their products maim and kill children.

The Vaccine Injury Table makes presenting this evidence a little bit easier by outlining injuries and conditions associated with vaccinations, and when they occur. In the prologue to the table, the NVIC admits that, when certain symptoms, illnesses or conditions emerge within a certain period of time following vaccination, “it is presumed that the vaccine was the cause of the injury….”

Parents Get Censored & Shushed Like Children at Meeting on Censorship

Have you bitten your fingernails today? Hopefully, you have saved room for when you watch this. If you’re a reasonable parent with a student in the public school system and notice a blatant violation – unfortunately this absurd behavior is something you might encounter from the district school board. That is, if they are intertwined with an agenda.

Michael Krieger of Liberty Blitzkreig reported the background on the Naples, Florida incident.

In order to give you some background on the issue, see the Letter to the Editor he wrote to the Naples Daily News on 1/28 to say what he was prevented from saying at the 1/20 School Board Workshop…
A quick synopsis of the letter involves parents who wished to speak out about premature curriculum approval that involved blatant historical fallacies (that you would probably detect immediately as propaganda) in text books. Seriously, that’s it. They wanted to point out the problems. For getting involved and wanting to rationally discuss the textbook problems (like the history book claiming the government can informally change the Constitution or the elimination of the U.S. on a world map) they were allegedly called “Nazi book burners” and “narrow-minded, racist Bible-thumpers.”

A recap of how the actual January Collier County School Board Workshop went in the video, shows that the parents never made it that far. They weren’t allowed to direct any comments to “approvers” or anyone involved or anyone who was using authority to silence the parents. This extended to absurd levels when it turned out that parents would be “shushed” like children for using any pronouns at all or referring to any human beings – as opposed to generalized, vague, watered-down topics. This wasn’t just a matter of keeping the peace – this was censorship via the same maturity of a schoolyard bully taunting “quit hittin’ yourself! quit hittin’ yourself!”

Also note the psychological effect of the parents having to look up to the chairwoman to make their statements….

Shocking Pictures Comparing US School Lunches to Other Countries Goes Viral

Since the program’s inception, Michelle Obama’s Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act has offended the sensibilities of the entire nation.

Conservatives found the program to be invasive, thrusting D.C.’s hand into local education matters. Educators found the program wasted enormous amounts of food and money. Parents found the lunches far too light to be considered “meals.” And school children everywhere took to the Internet with pictures of the gruesome dishes the program sloshed onto their cafeteria trays every day.

Those pictures did massive amounts of damage to Michelle’s pet program, but now an even worse PR disaster rears its head. This week the U.K. Daily Mail ran pictures of what other countries feed their school children. The comparison is stark … and humiliating for the United States.

The “meal” above featuring an orange slice, a puddle of either apple sauce or a pulverized slice of peach or pear, and what looks like lumpy chipped beef without the toast is one of the dishes that complies with Michelle’s totalitarian program….

HR-5 DENIES PARENTS’ RIGHTS OVER THEIR OWN CHILDREN

The following information is critically important. It should go viral immediately. Send it to every parent and grandparent, school board member, state legislator, voter, friend… Post it on Facebook, websites, blogs, etc. Time is very short….

Citizens of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvanians Restoring Education, Pennsylvania Against Common Core, parents and students are asking Representative John Kline to stop the REAUTHORIZATION of ESEA, HR 5, the Student Success Act of 2015 which will amend No Child Left Behind.

• HR 5 denies parents their rights over their children. References page 488; 522-555.

• HR 5 legislation creates the radical transformation of tax collection through the assigned destruction and hostile takeover of our local neighborhood schools.

• HR 5 violates states’ rights under the United States Constitution.

• HR 5 is designed to destroy local, public neighborhood schools through usurpation of elected school boards’ authorities and responsibilities.

• HR 5 will destroy all private education in America, as well, legislating Title I “choice” vouchers that will “follow the child,” enforcing HR 5 compliance in EVERY PRIVATE AND RELIGIOUS SCHOOL.

• HR 5 would legislate services to these Title I “choice” children called DIRECT STUDENT SERVICES AS A VOUCHER that must be equitable and comparable to any public school, which is needed to satisfy Common Core.

• HR 5 will destroy representative government, all non-governmental schools, and standardize education across this nation. This overreach of the federal government is in direct violation of our United States Constitution which dictates separation of federal jurisdiction vs. State jurisdiction.

…. “The family is the primary society. It does not exist by sufferance of the state.” (Dr. Charles E. Rice, correspondence February 5, 1996)

….if you care about a free America, you must stop HR-5.

Vaccine horrors: photos of “safe” vaccines gone wrong

Much like Brian Williams, vaccine promoters are serial liars. They know vaccines harm many children (and even kill some), yet they knowingly lie to the public by falsely claiming vaccines cause no harm whatsoever. (They do this willfully, in total violation of all medical ethics and fundamental honesty with the public.)

The “Big Lie” about vaccine safety is crumbling by the day, of course, causing the vaccine industry to resort to desperate tactics such as attempting to declare absolute government control over your body via a medical police state that forces you to submit to medical interventions. This will, of course, begin with forced vaccinations of unwilling people and then quickly escalate to other things that serve the interests of the medical police state such as forced organ harvesting from the bodies of all Americans. (To accomplish this, they will roll out emotionally charged campaigns of sobbing children who need kidneys, and then demonize people who don’t agree to be organ donors as being “selfish” and horrible people.)

Despite the pathetic propaganda attempts, the reality of vaccine damage tells a very different story from the one being falsely portrayed by the sellout media. As the photos below clearly show, vaccines cause horrifying medical mutilations of children again and again.

Keep this in mind the next time you see pathetic liars like Sen. Elizabeth Warren or CDC officials spouting total propaganda nonsense about vaccines being completely “safe and effective” (usually while smirking with evil grins). Watch this shocking video by Rob Dew which reveals the deeply-ingrained evil of vaccine fanatics in Washington who brazenly lie about vaccine “safety.”

WARNING: These photos are quite graphic. These children are VICTIMS of vaccine damage, and they have suffered tremendously. This is the true human cost of the vaccine lies and denials being staged by the mainstream media and CDC officials.

Do You Own Your Body? Vaccination By Force of Law ?

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie unwittingly ignited a firestorm earlier this week when he responded to a reporter’s question in Great Britain about forced vaccinations of children in New Jersey by suggesting that the law in the U.S. needs to balance the rights of parents against the government’s duty to maintain standards of public health.

Before Christie could soften the tone of his use of the word “balance,” Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul jumped into the fray to support the governor. In doing so, he made a stronger case for the rights of parents by advancing the view that all vaccines do not work for all children and the ultimate decision-maker should be parents and not bureaucrats or judges. He argued not for balance, but for bias — in favor of parents.

When Christie articulated the pro-balance view, he must have known that New Jersey law, which he enforces, has no balance, shows no deference to parents’ rights and permits exceptions to universal vaccinations only for medical reasons (where a physician certifies that the child will get sicker because of a vaccination) or religious objections. Short of those narrow reasons, in New Jersey, if you don’t vaccinate your children, you risk losing parental custody of them.

The science is overwhelming that vaccinations work for most children most of the time. Paul, who is a physician, said, however, he knew of instances in which poorly timed vaccinations had led to mental disorders. Yet, he was wise enough to make the pro-freedom case, and he made it stronger than Christie did.

To Paul, the issue is not science. That’s because in a free society, we are free to reject scientific orthodoxy and seek unorthodox scientific cures. Of course, we do that at our peril if our rejection of truth and selection of alternatives results in harm to others.

The issue, according to Paul, is: WHO OWNS YOUR BODY? This is a question the government does not want to answer truthfully, because if it does, it will sound like Big Brother in George Orwell’s novel “1984.” That’s because the government believes it owns your body.

Paul and no less an authority than the U.S. Supreme Court have rejected that concept. Under the natural law, because you retain the rights inherent in your birth that you have not individually given away to government, the government does not own your body.

Rather, you do. And you alone can decide your fate with respect to the ingestion of medicine. What about children? Paul argues that parents are the natural and legal custodians of their children’s bodies until they reach maturity….

Medical Kidnapping In Arizona Abounds

Since Health Impact News started publishing stories from families telling about their horrible experiences with medical kidnapping, we have had more families contact us from Arizona than almost all the other states combined.

But one case stands out from all of them in terms of the depth of the corruption in the medical system, and child protection services, within the state of Arizona. Award-winning investigative journalist Jennifer Margulis looked into one civil rights case that is currently in the 9th Circuit Court, and found what appears to be a tangled web of corruption and deception in Arizona that will shock you. Read the story of the Darrell and Leanna Smith, and how they lost 2 of their 3 children when Leanna questioned doctors in what appears to be a medical malpractice case. Their family was destroyed, and they are still in the midst of years of legal battles. How many other families in Arizona….

KILLING YOUR CHILDREN: VACCINES

The mother of an autistic child wonders aloud when health officials will wake up to the epidemic that has claimed not only her son but
hundreds of thousands of other children in the United States, with no end in sight. She muses, “Maybe someday this will be as important as SARS and we’ll get the same attention. God knows we need it.”

Autism is a severely incapacitating developmental disability for which there is no known cure. According to a recently released report by the California Department of Developmental Services, or DDS, entitled Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Changes in the California Caseload:
1999-2002
, the rate of children diagnosed with full-syndrome autism in the Golden State between 1999 and 2002 nearly doubled from 10,360 to 20,377. The report further revealed that “between Dec. 31, 1987, and Dec. 31, 2002, the population of persons with full-syndrome autism has increased by 634 percent.” That is a doubling of autism cases every four years, and the staggering increases are not limited to California.

According to data provided by the U.S. Department of Education, the increased autism rate in California is in line with the increases other states are experiencing. For example, in 1992 Ohio reported 22 cases. A decade later the number had increased by 13,895 percent to 3,057. In Illinois the rate of autism cases climbed from just five in 1992 to 3,802 – an increase of 76,040 percent.

Mississippi, New Hampshire and the District of Columbia reported no cases of autism in 1992, but by 2002 the number of cases reported were 461, 404 and 144, respectively.

Only Puerto Rico can claim to have an increase of less than 100
percent, with the remaining states reporting increases of at least 500 percent during the same period.

Although once considered rare, during the last two decades the chance of a child being diagnosed with autism has skyrocketed from one in 10,000 to one in 150. In California, full-syndrome autism now is the No. 1 disability among children and more prevalent than childhood cancer, diabetes and Down’s syndrome. It is estimated that within the next four years autism cases in the Golden State will exceed the total number of cases of both cerebral palsy and epilepsy. To get a better idea of how quickly the epidemic is spreading one need only consider that in 1987 there were 2,778 persons with autism in California. By 2002 the number had increased to 20,377, and in 2002 3,575 new cases
had been added to the rolls, far exceeding the total number of cases in the state 15 years earlier.

For years there has been a debate about the cause or causes of autism, but the vast majority of finger-pointing has been directed at childhood vaccines as the culprit. And considering what is put into the vaccines injected into hours-old infants, it is easy to understand why they are at the top of the list of suspects: formaldehyde (used in embalming), thimerosal (nearly 50 percent mercury), aluminum phosphate(toxic and carcinogenic), antibiotics, phenols (corrosive to skin and toxic), aluminum salts (corrosive to tissue and neurotoxic), methanol (toxic),
isopropyl (toxic), 2-pheoxyethanol (toxic), live viruses and a host of unknown components considered off-limits as trade secrets. These are just part of the vaccine mixture.

For those who believe there are elements in vaccines that may be
responsible for the increased number of autism cases and other
neurological disorders, thimerosal currently is at the top of the list of possible culprits being investigated.

[Marilyn Barnewall notes: “Fox News is obviously selling this “vaccinations are totally safe” line – why? I haven’t heard them once mention all of the non-inoculated illegal alien children coming into the country which is (in all likelihood) the cause of the measles outbreak. Why are they avoiding the most logical reason as the cause? Something smells here (because of the avoidance of common sense and logic).”]

Despite official insistence that the evidence linking injected
thimerosal to autism is inconclusive, the data suggest otherwise. In 1999 the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine, or IOM, must have thought there was something seriously wrong when it supported removal of thimerosal from vaccines, stating that it was “a prudent measure in support of the public goal to reduce mercury exposure of infants and children as much as possible.” The IOM further urged that “full consideration be given to removing thimerosal from any biological product to which infants, children and pregnant women are exposed.”

A recently published study in the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons by Mark Geier, M.D., Ph.D., and president of the Genetic Centers of America and his son, David Geier, president of Medcon Inc. and a consultant on vaccine cases, was titled Thimerosal in Childhood Vaccines, Neurodevelopment Disorders and Heart Disease in the United
States.
It presents strong epidemiological evidence for a link between neurodevelopmental disorders and mercury exposure from thimerosal-containing childhood vaccines….

Ben Carson: No exemptions on immunizations

Republican Ben Carson said on Tuesday vaccinations should be mandatory, with no religious or philosophical exemptions, and schools should check to make sure children have received them.

“We already have policies in place at schools that require immunization records and things of that nature,” the conservative neurosurgeon, who is weighing a 2016 run for president, told CNN’s Jake Tapper on “The Lead.”

“A lot of people are put off when they hear the word ‘government force,’ and perhaps there’s a better way to put these things,” Carson said. “But the fact of the matter is, studies have shown us over the course of time that the benefit-to-risk ratio for vaccination is way in the favor of doing it as opposed to not doing it.”

Carson also defended a potential 2016 Republican primary opponent, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, who set off controversy when he told CNBC on Monday that he’s heard of cases in which vaccinations are linked to “profound mental disorders,” even as he praised vaccinations generally. Paul said parents should have some choice in whether and when their children receive vaccinations.

Carson said Paul’s comments are “not exactly being portrayed the way he meant it.”

….On Tuesday, Paul clarified his comments.

“I did not say vaccines caused disorders, just that they were temporally related — I did not allege causation. I support vaccines, I receive them myself and I had all of my children vaccinated,” Paul said….

By Eric Bradner – CNN –

OnlyWay Editor David McElroy comments: Isn’t it strange how a woman has a right to choose what goes on in her body if she wants to abort a child, but we have no right to refuse a vaccine being injected into our bodies? It seems we only have a right to choose what is detrimental to life!

10 Women Christian Men Should Not Marry

In a former post, I detailed 10 men that Christian women ought to avoid when considering marriage. Today, I present to you my list for Christian men.

“I have perceived among the youths, a young man lacking sense, passing along the street near her corner, taking the road to her house” (Proverbs 7:7-8).

1. The Unbeliever. Scripture is replete with exhortations against such marriages (in both the Old and New Testaments). Contrary to popular misconception, God’s prohibition against marriages to foreign women in the Old Testament was not due to racism. Instead, God was simply preventing the spread of idolatry. Israel, God’s chosen people in the Old Testament, represented what Christians would later represent in the New Testament. Hence, God’s prohibition against marrying an unbelieving woman in the New Testament (2 Cor 6:14) is simply the extension of God prohibiting a Hebrew man from from marrying a Canaanite woman in the Old Testament (Deut 7:3-4). “Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons, for they will turn your children away from following me to serve other gods, and the LORD’s anger will burn against you and will quickly destroy you” (Deut. 7:3-4).

What then, is a believer? A Christian essentially is someone who believes in the gospel of Jesus Christ. What then, is the gospel? The gospel is: 1. God is holy, loving, and just. He therefore, must condemn all sinners to punishment in the flames of eternal hell; 2. You and I are all sinners who deserve nothing but God’s wrath in hell after our deaths; 3. God loved humanity so much that He sent His only Son, Jesus (who was fully God and fully man), to die on the cross for your sins. Jesus paid the debt for your sins and absorbed God’s wrath on your behalf; 4. If you repent (turn from) all your sins and personally put your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord, God and Savior, then you will have eternal life. (For more information on the saving message of the gospel, click here.)

2. The Divorcee. Jesus clearly taught that unless the first marriage ended due to a partner’s sexual infidelity, a second marriage is to be considered invalid and adulterous. A divorced woman, therefore, is off limits for a Christian man–unrepentant adultery being a sin that prevents one from obtaining eternal life (1 Cor 6:9). “If she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery” (Mark 10:12). “And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery” (Matthew 19:9).

3. The Older Woman. Not a sin, but certainly not God’s ideal. God expects men to be the spiritual leaders of the home (Eph 5:25) and it certainly requires an extra measure of grace to lead a woman who’s older than you. Again, if you’re a man and you’re already in such a marriage, then honor it till the day you die–it’s still a valid marriage and divorce is not an option! However, if you’re not yet married but thinking about an older woman I want to remind you that God intentionally (with good reason!) created Adam before Eve in the First Marriage. Scripture informs us that God created man first chronologically for the sake of authority! Listen: “I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. For Adam was formed first, then Eve” (1 Timothy 2:12-13).

Apparently, even secular researchers are now beginning to discover results that back up biblical claims: “If you’re a woman two or more years older than your husband, your marriage is 53 percent more likely to end in divorce than if he was one year younger to three years older.” (Source: Rebecca Kippen, Bruce Chapman and Peng Yu, “What’s Love Got to Do With It? Homogamy and Dyadic Approaches to Understanding Marital Instability,” Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research, 2009.)

4. The Feminist. There’s no room within Christendom for the “Christian feminist.” Though women and men have equal value in the eyes of God (Gal 3:28), they certainly have different God-given roles. Any woman who tries to usurp her husband’s authority or even claims to be a co-leader with her man is gravely dishonoring the God who created her to be subject and obedient to her husband (Eph 5:22, Col 3:18, 1 Pet 3:1). Eve was distinctly created “for” man, a point that the apostle Paul makes abundantly clear in 1 Corinthians 11 when he writes, “For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.” (1 Corinthians 11:8-9). Men, your wife is to be your “helper” (Gen 2:18)–not your leader and certainly not your equal in terms of authority. Look for a woman who agrees with you in this very vital God-ordained relational dynamic.

5. The Immodest-Dresser. Sexy might inadvertently catch your eyeballs, but it shouldn’t catch your heart. The way that a woman is willing to expose herself says much about her heart: “And behold, the woman meets him, dressed as a prostitute, wily of heart” (Proverbs 7:10). The text in Proverbs explains that a woman will dress in a certain way to catch a certain type of man. Don’t be that man. Don’t be the fool who’s led by his hormones instead of the Holy Spirit. Remember: you want godly, not gaudy.

200,000 Pro-lifers March to Supreme Court, Capitol Hill

Tens of thousands of pro-lifers are in Washington, DC, today, January 22, to stand for life at the 42nd annual March for Life.

The day started with a 5-K run along the Potomac River as others got set to march to the Supreme Court which legalized abortion in 1973.

This year’s March for Life theme is “Every Life is a Gift,” says Jeanne Mancini, who heads the March.

There is a special focus on children who are aborted after the mother receives a prenatal diagnosis of a disability. Those babies are aborted at a “highly disproportionate rate,” says the pro-lifer.

“And we’re trying to do what we can for any woman who would be considering an abortion but especially these who are considered for abortion even more often,” Mancini tells OneNewsNow….

More than 200,000 people are expected to participate in the March.

Internet Porn Driving Human Trafficking, Profits

Pimps have realized that they can remain anonymous, make lots more money and offer more extreme and deviant sexual behaviors if they just move their “business” from the street corner to the Internet.

Popular companies like Backpage, Craigslist, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are making millions of dollars by allowing users to buy and sell women and children and to trade pornographic pictures on their sites. There is mounting public outcry demanding that these companies accept social and civic responsibility to change their ways and help curb sexual exploitation.

However, these companies are hiding behind a law that has been completely misinterpreted by our high courts – the Communications Decency Act. Congress intended that this law help protect children from exposure to Internet pornography. The act included a defense, Section 230, for Internet providers, protecting them from liability for material posted to their sites by 3rd parties. Thus, if illegal pornography or other material is posted to a site by someone not associated with the site operator, the site was to be held blameless.

Section 230 was well intentioned, but when the substantive portions of the CDA were held unconstitutional, the 230 defense was left standing and has been used by companies like Backpage, which holds its site out as a place to advertise illegal conduct such as sex trafficking of women and children. Congress never intended this result, yet some courts have ruled that the 230 defense provides, in effect, blanket website immunity for all material posted by 3rd parties on the sites. It is estimated that Backpage alone makes approximately $3 million per month on ads for prostituted and trafficked women and children.

Morality In The Media is asking for your help in asking Congress to amend this law to represent what they originally intended it to do – help protect children!

Anti-terror plan to spy on toddlers ‘is heavy-handed’

Nursery staff and child-minders are given ‘duty’ to report toddlers they suspect of being at risk of becoming terrorists under new Home Office measures.

Nursery school staff and registered childminders must report toddlers at risk of becoming terrorists, under counter-terrorism measures proposed by the Government.

The directive is contained in a 39-page consultation document issued by the Home Office in a bid to bolster its Prevent anti-terrorism plan.

Critics said the idea was “unworkable” and “heavy-handed”, and accused the Government of treating teachers and carers as “spies”.

The document accompanies the Counter-Terrorism and Security Bill, currently before parliament. It identifies nurseries and early years childcare providers, along with schools and universities, as having a duty “to prevent people being drawn into terrorism”.

The consultation paper adds: “Senior management and governors should make sure that staff have training that gives them the knowledge and confidence to identify children at risk of being drawn into terrorism and challenge extremist ideas which can be used to legitimise terrorism and are shared by terrorist groups.

“They should know where and how to refer children and young people for further help.”

But concern was raised over the practicalities of making it a legal requirement for staff to inform on toddlers.

David Davis, the Conservative MP and former shadow home secretary, said: “It is hard to see how this can be implemented. It is unworkable. I have to say I cannot understand what they [nursery staff] are expected to do.

“Are they supposed to report some toddler who comes in praising a preacher deemed to be extreme? I don’t think so.

“It is heavy-handed.”

Mr Davis also accused the Home Office of pushing the legislation too quickly.

Isabella Sankey, the policy director at human rights body Liberty, said: “Turning our teachers and childminders into an army of involuntary spies will not stop the terrorist threat.

“Far from bringing those at the margins back into mainstream society, it will sow seeds of mistrust, division and alienation from an early age.

Joyless Nanny State Prohibits Sledding

Don’t have too much fun. In fact, don’t have any fun. You could hurt yourself! That’s the thinking of all too many government entities these days—and it’s why local officials are increasingly likely to shut down the neighborhood sledding hill.

According to the Associated Press, sledding prohibitions are more and more common:

No one tracks how many cities have banned or limited sledding, but the list grows every year. One of the latest is in Dubuque, Iowa, where the City Council is moving ahead with a plan to ban sledding in all but two of its 50 parks.

“We have all kinds of parks that have hills on them,” said Marie Ware, Dubuque’s leisure services manager. “We can’t manage the risk at all of those places.”

In the bureaucrat’s defense, government is not solely responsible for all the fun-killing. When kids get hurt, their parents sue, and these liability concerns have made it too costly for local authorities to run the risk.

Shifting societal attitudes have played a role as well, according to the AP:

“Most people realize that cities must restrict potentially dangerous activities to protect people and guard against costly lawsuits,” said Kenneth Bond, a New York lawyer who represents local governments. “In the past, people might have embraced a Wild West philosophy of individuals being solely responsible for their actions, but now they expect government to prevent dangers whenever possible. It’s a great idea on the frontier, but we don’t live on the frontier anymore,” Bond said.

It seems to me there is some comfortable room between the Wild West frontier of days past and the bubble-wrapped nanny state we live in now. Perhaps the government could protect our basic safety needs while still allowing for a bit of winter fun?

Homeschooling Update : Regulations Relaxed

FREEPORT, Pa. — Until recently, Pennsylvania had one of the strictest home-school laws in the nation.

Families keeping their children out of traditional classrooms were required to register each year with their local school district, outlining study plans and certifying that adults in the home did not have a criminal record. At the end of the year, they submitted portfolios of student work to private evaluators for review. The portfolio and evaluator’s report then went to a school district superintendent to approve.

But in October, after years of campaigning by home-schooling families in the state as well as the Home School Legal Defense Association, a national advocacy group, Pennsylvania relaxed some of its requirements.

More than 40 families participate in a home-schooling cooperative at Andrews Air Force Base.

Gov. Mary Fallin of Oklahoma has not decided whether to sign a bill that would withdraw her state from the Common Core standards. Similar legislation is on governors’ desks in Missouri and South Carolina.

“We believe that because parents who make this commitment to teach their children at home are dedicated and self-motivated, there’s just not a real need for the state to be involved in overseeing education,” said Dewitt T. Black III, senior counsel for the Home School Legal Defense Association, which has close ties to local Christian home-school associations. Mr. Black wrote an early version of the bill that eventually passed here.

Unlike so much of education in this country, teaching at home is broadly unregulated. Along with steady growth in home schooling has come a spirited debate and lobbying war over how much oversight such education requires.

Eleven states do not require families to register with any school district or state agency that they are teaching their children at home, according to the Coalition for Responsible Home Education, a nonprofit group that is pushing for more accountability in home schooling. Fourteen states do not specify any subjects that families must teach, and only nine states require that parents have at least a high school diploma or equivalent in order to teach their children. In half the states, children who are taught at home never have to take a standardized test or be subject to any sort of formal outside assessment.

And the movement is growing. Once mainly concentrated among religious families as well as parents who wanted to release their children from the strictures of traditional classrooms, home schooling is now attracting parents who want to escape the testing and curriculums that have come along with the Common Core, new academic standards that have been adopted by more than 40 states.

HALF OF ALL CHILDREN WILL BE AUTISTIC BY 2025

Why? Evidence points to glyphosate toxicity from the overuse of Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide on our food.

For over three decades, Stephanie Seneff, PhD, has researched biology and technology, over the years publishing over 170 scholarly peer-reviewed articles. In recent years she has concentrated on the relationship between nutrition and health, tackling such topics as Alzheimer’s, autism, and cardiovascular diseases, as well as the impact of nutritional deficiencies and environmental toxins on human health.

At a conference last Thursday, in a special panel discussion about GMOs, she took the audience by surprise when she declared, “At today’s rate, by 2025, one in two children will be autistic.” She noted that the side effects of autism closely mimic those of glyphosate toxicity, and presented data showing a remarkably consistent correlation between the use of Roundup on crops (and the creation of Roundup-ready GMO crop seeds) with rising rates of autism. Children with autism have biomarkers indicative of excessive glyphosate, including zinc and iron deficiency, low serum sulfate, seizures, and mitochondrial disorder.

A fellow panelist reported that after Dr. Seneff’s presentation, “All of the 70 or so people in attendance were squirming, likely because they now had serious misgivings about serving their kids, or themselves, anything with corn or soy, which are nearly all genetically modified and thus tainted with Roundup and its glyphosate.”

Dr. Seneff noted the ubiquity of glyphosate’s use. Because it is used on corn and soy, all soft drinks and candies sweetened with corn syrup and all chips and cereals that contain soy fillers have small amounts of glyphosate in them, as do our beef and poultry since cattle and chicken are fed GMO corn or soy. Wheat is often sprayed with Roundup just prior to being harvested, which means that all non-organic bread and wheat products would also be sources of glyphosate toxicity. The amount of glyphosate in each product may not be large, but the cumulative effect (especially with as much processed food as Americans eat) could be devastating. A recent study shows that pregnant women living near farms where pesticides are applied have a 60% increased risk of children having an autism spectrum disorder.

Other toxic substances may also be autism-inducing. You may recall our story on the CDC whistleblower who revealed the government’s deliberate concealment of the link between the MMR vaccine (for measles, mumps, and rubella) and a sharply increased risk of autism, particularly in African American boys. Other studies now show a link between children’s exposure to pesticides and autism. Children who live in homes with vinyl floors, which can emit phthalate chemicals, are more likely to have autism. Children whose mothers smoked were also twice as likely to have autism. Research now acknowledges that environmental contaminants such as PCBs, PBDEs, and mercury can alter brain neuron functioning even before a child is born.

A tale of two churches!

This is not a great doctrinal treatise but how it was remembered in later years by a nine year old child…

Bethany Church of Christ

“The Bethany church Building is across from the Bethany cemetery. It has been unused for around 80 years. A Coal mining company has bought the property and will eventually tear it down. Several times while talking to my mother about family history, we would talk about what happened to this church. She was around nine when her family stopped attending there. The congregation had divided over Bible studies and Wednesday night services in the building.

The two elders being prompted by one family in particular finally said there would be no Bible classes or Wednesday night services in the building. The controversy became so strong that the elders padlocked the doors. They said to those opposing them that “you can have classes on the steps outside but not in the building.” The dispute was disrupting worship. One Sunday night during services, a man who disagreed with the elders, stood up and said he was going to read a chapter from the Bible. To shut him up another man started singing a hymn, very loudly, and his wife put her hand over his mouth. On another occasion while the men opposing the classes where in the hallway having a discussion, the same man got up in the auditorium and started reading the Bible again. This prompted one of the men in the hallway to come in and knock him down.

Having worship services had become almost impossible. The member’s personal lives were being disrupted by disputes also. The fact that mother remembered so many details about the arguments between the members, shows the effect that it was having on the children also.

Eventually the members called in two preachers to try to settle the dispute. A document was written and the members were asked to sign it. (copies of the agreement are in the following pages). Apparently this did not settle the dispute because many of the members, including Mother’s family, left and started another congregation. They met at “Uncle Bill and Aunt Mary Long’s house” . In 1929, after a local farmer donated some land they built a new building- they called it Mt. Zion. The Bethany congregation completely disbanded and the building sits abandoned-unless the mine has torn it down. The Mt. Zion church is still active.”

Jerry Blount’s comments…

Pic of the Mt Zion Church today…. This is the “new congregation” formed in 1929 from the members driven off by the no Bible class brethren. Today it remains a small country church but it survived.

Reading between the lines below you can draw out a series of fairly common themes in a church split.

1) It stemmed from a church trying to cater to the whims of one family to the point the rest of the church rebelled. Presumably said family is now facing the curse of I Corinthians 3: 17 “If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is sacred, and you are that temple.” Clearly it is up to God to judge them. If God judges them guilty… that curse will fall squarely upon them. (among others)

2) The “no Bible classes” position was at the heart of it. This fad went through the churches in the early 20th century… most of those churches have now died out because of the ignorance of the following generations I.E., ignoring the young generally leads to ignorance among the young. There are other reasons that churches split but this position will always eventually cause one. Parents generally just will not willingly throw their children to the wolves. Ignorance is one of the worst wolves that will devour our children. Parents tend to seek out someone (or group of “someones”) who cares in practice rather than simply words. They cannot gain new families.

3) The church lost its families… a church without families, children, is in a fatal position unless it can be cured. Satan loves to find wedges to drive the families away.

This position towards scripture is clearly fatal… it creates a mindset that “I’ll care for my kids but the devil can have yours!” Spiritual orphans have no place to turn if they come from weak families and the church is not there for them. The “no Bible class” position will always eventually drive off the families. There is no new thing under the sun!

Once entrenched this doctrine has destroyed every congregation that I am familiar with. This is a real life example of the reason this position has virtually died out among us.

4) The parents who take pains to provide a suitable environment for their children can save them. The others lose them. Hence… the new church survived. Those parents went the extra mile to start over and rebuild… rebuild they did. Three generations later, their descendants still remember and are proud of the sacrifices made by them.

Most of the actual participants are now buried in the cemetery across the road from what was meeting place of The Bethany Church of Christ. They each have their own little stone monuments over their respective graves but ….

Ironically the larger monument to their lives… The one that casts a shadow over their grave every morning is this old crumbling church building. In this case the shadow cast is very, very literal.

Their legacy…

I would call this A Tale of Two Churches!

CHRISTMAS HEROES: Parents Fighting Anti-Christian Agendas

How ironic that as children all across the nation prepares to take part in various Christmas season events that they, in far too many cases, will not be allowed to actually celebrate Christmas. But to be honest, it is far more serious than just celebrating Christmas. Each day millions of students are sent by their parents off to build a solid academic base as well as learn about our American values in school. Those values and principles are built upon Judeo-Christian beliefs. In 2013 there were over 400 biblical principle attacks on children who wanted to read a Bible before or after school or even during lunch break and were denied.

When your child returns from the Christmas holidays will he or she still have to learn and embrace the teaching of Islam in the classroom, but have the teaching of biblical history overruled? What happens when the topics your child may be learning are ideals and values that marginalize how you have raised them and articulate an agenda that compromises your family’s religious beliefs? This is not something that can be overlooked simply because the child is heading home for a Christmas break.

Actually this serves as the best time to discuss and share what your beliefs are and reinforce the reasons why you will stand up for them when your child returns to school in the New Year. Don’t accept the erroneous church and state separation argument that liberal school officials try to jam down the throat of Christian parents. Your child has U.S. Constitutional rights and they must be protected….

So it really is upon you. As a parent what are you willing to sacrifice to stand up and protect your child from a school or a school district that is willing to take away or marginalize your child’s values and principles because it is convenient for them? Are you willing to tolerate unfair and illegal treatment of your child? Are you willing to let the politically correct values of liberal parents and secular anti-Christian organizations dominate your life, principles and support of America’s biblical heritage?

America has a culture that rises up from the deep foundational values that guided the founding fathers….parents that pray over their decisions at their kitchen table, or in the living room or perhaps during the church service. As a responsible parent they take a stand on principle rather than they should turn over their role and responsibility to the offending teacher, principal, submitting to the will of a partial anti-Christian school administrator or local school board member. They are not like others who take the easy route and conveniently swallow their principles and their values….

Take a page from Samuel Adams, who was one of America’s Revolutionary Heroes and a Founding Father. Adams’s father was a church deacon and was deeply influenced by him. Adams spoke of lukewarm supporters saying,

“If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”

Let liberty and your children and America’s future generations be your guide and your prayer as you celebrate this Christmas season. There is no tranquility in servitude to political correctness, so take off the politically correct chains of convenience that are used to shackle your children. Praise the birth of the Son of God and fight to protect your child and their future in the New Year as their Hero!

I Won’t Take the Mark

Katherine Albrecht…. had undertaken a most important, yet for all I can tell, completely by all others neglected, task of teaching children about the system and mark of the Beast. What a hugely ambitious undertaking! She has done this in the form of a children’s book which comes complete with a certificate of pledge for the child to sign after they have read, or had read to them, her book titled, I Won’t Take the Mark.

In my personal yet brutally honest opinion, this is a stroke of sheer spiritual genius I wish I had come up with before her! But in reality, I’m sure the idea wasn’t hers’ to begin with anyway. And if she’s truly the woman of God I suspect her to be, I believe she would be the first one to tell you that. I simply see the Fingerprints of the Spirit all over this inspired idea. And so Lord willing, I will soon be ordering one of her books to check it out. As the Lord directs me, I will get back to all of you accordingly….

Why haven’t we heard more about this subject in general from the churches? For me, the answer is pretty obvious and, if you’ve been receiving my email messages for any length of time, it should be pretty obvious to you as well. The fact is, that at this particular point on God’s eternal time line, there are certain subjects the 501 (C) (3) corporate (fiction of law, counterfeit) churches will never discuss. The system and mark of the Beast is one of those subjects. Either it will be discussed with certain key “tie in” facts left out – as not to offend the hand that feeds them – or, it will be completely ignored, considered “too close for comfort”.

In 1966, when I was a young convert to Christ at age 16, we were routinely shown at our church youth group and YFC (Youth For Christ) gatherings, films that depicted life in the years to come when the system of the Beast Government would be full fledged, implemented and inextricably in place. Well, my dear sleeping souls, guess what? Those days are here right now… and they’ve only just begin! Makes ya wanna sing, doesn’t it?

Princess Wand Toy Reveals Image Of Girl Cutting Wrist

A local mother is upset after she bought a “princess wand” for her daughter, but the toy revealed a disturbing image.

From WHIO.com –

DAYTON — A local mother is upset after she bought a “princess wand” for her daughter, but the toy revealed a disturbing image. Nicole Allen bought what she thought was a princess wand from a local dollar store earlier this week. A piece of foil came off the wand, and underneath there was a disturbing image of a girl cutting her wrists with a knife.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POCngEpkOLI

Allen said the toy’s packaging included a fairy, but the store owner told News Center 7’s Lauren Clark that the toy is called an “evil stick,” so the mother should have realized what she was buying. The store owner said he would take the wands off the shelves if he receives more complaints.

OUR CHILDREN ARE RED, WHITE AND SCREWED

By Dave Hodges – The Common Sense Show –

….There was a time that a child could produce a mediocre track record in high school, not go to college, but were able to work in a factory or a department store and climb the ranks and subsequently live a life of wonderful opportunities.

With 86% of our 1968 based manufacturing gone to overseas markets, those days of second chance opportunities are gone forever.

When the Blinders Come Off

My soon-to-14 year old son is showing signs of asking questions befitting an adult perspective of our present political and economic situation. I am not bashful about identifying the misdeeds of our government when I am writing or broadcasting. Also, I know that I have the intellectual capacity to explain to my son how bad things have become in terms he can understand. However, I have found that I am lacking the skill and knowledge to explain to my son just how bad things are without taking away his hope for the future.

I am running out of time to begin to formulate a dialogue with my son as I know that I will have to say something and say it very soon. Just the other day, my son made fun of Obama and his nation of birth, Kenya. As my readers and listeners will tell you, I don’t pursue the “birther issue” a s a point of emphasis in my advocacy. Yet, my son is keenly aware of this issue. Last night as we were driving home from play that we attended, my son offhandedly said “the rich control Obama and he controls us like a dictator”. In other words, he is getting his education about the New World Order from sources from “OTP” (i.e. other than parents). I asked him where he got that information and he said “some of the kids at school say Obama is a member of Illuminati and it is all over Youtube”. Life was so much easier when I controlled most of his access to information. I knew that this day would come, but I am finding that I am not prepared with ready made answers about how the world really works. Most adults don’t know how the world works….

Figures may lie and liars may figure, however, there are some numbers that cannot be ignored and they serve to underscore the increasing sense of hopelessness that is creeping across the country.

During 2011, 53 percent of all Americans with a bachelor’s degree under the age of 25 were either unemployed or underemployed.

At this point about half of all recent college graduates are working jobs that do not even require a college degree.

The number of Americans in the 16 to 29 year old age bracket with a job declined by 18 percent between 2000 and 2010.

Incomes for U.S. households led by someone between the ages of 25 and 34 have fallen by about 12 percent after you adjust for inflation since the year 2000.

In 1984, the median net worth of households led by someone 65 or older was 10 times larger than the median net worth of households led by someone 35 or younger. Today, the median net worth of households led by someone 65 or older is 47 times larger than the median net worth of households led by someone 35 or younger.

In 2011, SAT scores for young men were the worst that they had been in 40 years….

Me Thinks You Doth Protest Too Much

By Karl Denninger – MarketTicker.org –

I wrote the other day on a bestselling author who had written an op-ed on a person who sideswiped his parked car. He was lamenting that the police observed that “People just aren’t honest anymore.”

His challenge was to ask the person who hit his vehicle to prove that wrong.

I went after him, and I believe justly so, pointing out just a handful of the myriad scams and frauds (that is, dishonesty) that permeates literally every nook and cranny of our society today.

Jason has written some pretty decent little puff pieces for Fox as of late. But I gotta tell you — I still think I’m spot on with my commentary, and here’s why.

The simple fact of the matter is that it is Jason, and you, and I, and the rest of us, that make all these scams and schemes possible. We do it through our silence, we do it by participating, we do it when we advocate for or support forcibly taking someone’s money to hand to another in the form of food stamps or AFDC, Section 8, Medicaid or otherwise. We do it when we go along with Obamacare or even allow the “traditional” health insurance rip-off model to function. We do it when we accept the claim that “2% inflation” is proper, even though that is admitting to the wanton and intentional destruction of value of what we have previously earned and, absent such intentional interference purchasing power would increase as technology improves instead. We allow politicians to run ponzi schemes that must mathematically fail and impoverish our children, grandchildren and those not yet born — screwing our own kids. We are complicit and thus to blame because we do not cast our wooden shoes into the gears of the machine, destroying it or at least slowing it down.

It’s only when our car gets ripped up that we write columns about honesty — or the lack thereof.

And therein lies the gist of my post, and the message behind it….

Homeschooling is an act of defiance that frightens the state.

By Wendy McElroy –

To government, homeschooling resembles a weed that spreads and resists control. To homeschooling parents, it is the flowering of knowledge and values within children who have been abandoned or betrayed by public schools. A great tension exists between the two perspectives. Homeschooling’s continued growth has only heightened it.

The federal government has reacted by attempting to increase its control over homeschooling, for example, by pushing for increased regulation of homeschool curricula. But the federal government is hindered by certain factors. For one thing, education is generally the prerogative of individual states. Nevertheless, the federal government can often impose its will by threatening to withhold federal funds from states that do not comply with its measures.

But homeschooling parents cannot be threatened by a withdrawal of money they don’t receive. As it is, they are paying double. They pay taxes to support public schools from which they draw no benefit and they pay again in homeschooling money and in terms of lost opportunities such as the full-time employment of both parents. The “profit” they receive is a solid education for their children. What they want from the government is to be left alone.

The federal government is also hindered by not being able to play the “it’s for the children” card that justifies so many intrusive policies. Homeschooled children routinely display better development than public school students.

A 2012 article in Education News called the “consistently high placement of homeschooled kids on standardized assessment exams … one of the most celebrated benefits of homeschooling.” Education News compared the quality of homeschooling to that of public schooling. “Those who are independently educated typically score between the 65th and 89th percentile on such exams, while those attending traditional schools average on the 50th percentile. Furthermore, the achievement gaps, long plaguing school systems … aren’t present in the homeschooling environment. There’s no difference in achievement between sexes, income levels, or race/ethnicity.” Studies also indicate that homeschooled children are better socialized with both peers and adults.

It appears the federal government has failed to yank the “weed” of homeschooling. Why does the Obama administration continue to try?

1. Homeschooling is an acute embarrassment to public schools, which do not educate and are rife with abuse. News stories abound of students who are illiterate and who are being abused by teachers or by the police who arrest them for trivial offenses such as burping in class. (See “A List of 19 Children Recently Arrested (July 2013) For Trivial Things.”)

2. Public schools are desperate for funding. The federal government especially wants to pay the expensive union salaries, pensions, and other benefits enjoyed by teachers because unions are one of the administration’s political bases. Since tax dollars are allocated largely according to class attendance, the goal is to force as many children as possible into public schools.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the number of homeschooled children in 2007 “was about 1.5 million, an increase from 850,000 in 1999 and 1.1 million in 2003.” Homeschooling is currently growing by an estimated 7 percent a year. Each homeschooled child represents a loss of funds to public schools and a threat to teachers’ pensions.

3. The homeschooled child is also an embarrassment to the public schools in economic terms. As Education News explained, “The average expenditure for the education of a homeschooled child, per year, is $500 to $600, compared to an average expenditure of $10,000 per child, per year, for public school students.” Of course, that doesn’t take into account the wages a parent most forego to homeschool a child, but at least that opportunity cost is borne only by the parent.

4. The federal government wants to weaken political critics. Parents who homeschool usually do so because of religious reasons (38.4 percent), because they can do a better overall job (48.9 percent), or due to objections to the content (21.1 percent) or to the academic quality (25.6 percent) of public schools. They are “dissatisfied customers” who weaken the government’s legitimacy and credibility. Those who choose homeschooling for religious or ideological reasons present an even larger problem because they are likely to dislike other government programs and positions. A clamp-down on homeschooling weakens the influence of critics, preventing them from producing future opponents.

5. Access to children allows the government to inculcate its values. Public schools teach politically correct attitudes; for example, the diversity of race must be embraced but a diversity of ideas should be rejected. Public schools have become venues for social experiments such as the so-called healthy lunch programs championed by Michele Obama even though children often throw them away, preferring to be hungry. Public schools are also experimenting with using students as advocates for government policies. For example, America’s second-largest school district, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), has accepted almost $1 million for a pilot program to train students how to convince their families to enroll in Obamacare.

ComputerCOP: ‘Internet Safety Software’ Police Agencies Distribute To Families Is Spyware

By Dave Maass – EFF.org –

Police chiefs, sheriffs, and district attorneys have handed out hundreds of thousands of copies of the disc to families for free at schools, libraries, and community events, usually as a part of an “Internet Safety” outreach initiative. The packaging typically features the agency’s official seal and the chief’s portrait, with a signed message warning of the “dark and dangerous off-ramps” of the Internet.

As official as it looks, ComputerCOP is actually just spyware, generally bought in bulk from a New York company that appears to do nothing but market this software to local government agencies.

The way ComputerCOP works is neither safe nor secure. It isn’t particularly effective either, except for generating positive PR for the law enforcement agencies distributing it. As security software goes, we observed a product with a keystroke-capturing function, also called a “keylogger,” that could place a family’s personal information at extreme risk by transmitting what a user types over the Internet to third-party servers without encryption. That means many versions of ComputerCOP leave children (and their parents, guests, friends, and anyone using the affected computer) exposed to the same predators, identity thieves, and bullies that police claim the software protects against.

Who Killed the American Family?

By Phyllis Schlafly – Eagle Forum –

The British press just reported the result of a new study by academics from Oxford and the University of London that children raised in stable marital homes are better behaved than classmates brought up by unmarried parents. Children raised by married parents show lower levels of anti-social attitudes and hyperactivity.

Recent U.S. surveys show that the U.S. taxpayers’ money appropriated to “close the gap” between higher-achieving and lower-achieving students has failed to achieve this goal. Contrary to conventional wisdom, poverty is not the principal cause of the gap, but whether or not children grow up in a family with their own mom and pop compared to kids who lack that advantage.

Many groups had a motive for wanting to abolish the American nuclear family. The feminists’ rallying cry from the start was “liberation,” and they meant liberation from husband, family, and care for children because, they said, taking care of small children is a demeaning occupation for an educated woman.

In the 1970s it became popular to say that the “village” should raise the child. The liberal establishment defines “village” to include all sorts of government busybodies such as public school officials, hired consultants, psychologists, custody evaluators, women’s studies courses, and especially family court judges.

The New York Times reported that judges routinely decide where the children of divorced parents may attend school and even attend church, whether they may be homeschooled, what medical care they may receive, and even whether they play soccer or take piano lessons. The system of having family court judges make decisions about the raising of children has become so universal that, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, Family Court judges now control the private living arrangements of 46 million Americans and have the power to transfer $40 billion between households.
