Edible park feeds 200,000 hungry people every month!

In Irvine, California, a 7.5 acre plot of land was turned into “The Incredible Edible Park”, a community garden which feeds 200,000 people each month. Every year, over 15,000 volunteers come through to help plant and harvest the food. The once unused plot of land was donated and is now run by an organization called the Second Harvest Food Bank.

According to their website:

“Through a network of 340 member charities distributing food at 480 locations Second Harvest alleviates food insecurity for more than 200,000 individuals in Orange County each month. Our member agencies are non-profit organizations such as shelters, churches, homes for battered and abused women and children and local pantries. As a vital link between the food industry and agencies that feed those at-risk of hunger, Second Harvest Food Bank has distributed more than 329 million pounds of food to the hungry in Orange County.”

The website also mentioned that a large portion of the food and resources are provided by local businesses and donors.

“More than 90 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to hunger-relief programs. The majority of our food is donated through restaurants, grocery stores, food manufacturers, growers and packers, our Incredible Edible Farm, Feeding America, the USDA, and corporate and individual food drives,” the website said.

Jason Brown left the NFL to feed the hungry

St. Louis Rams center Jason Brown has left the NFL to pursue farming:

“My agent told me, ‘You’re making the biggest mistake of your life,’” Brown told CBS. “And I looked right back at him and I said, ‘No I’m not. No I’m not.’”

Back in 2009, Brown signed a $37.5 million dollar contract with the Rams, making him the highest paid center in all of football. He earned about $25 million of that contract and decided to leave the final year’s $12.5 million on the table. Instead, he bought 1,000 acres of farmland in North Carolina.

Brown is doing this to help the less fortunate. He grows sweet potatoes and other vegetables and donates his harvest to food pantries. According to the News & Observer, he has given away 46,000 pounds of sweet potatoes and 10,000 pounds of cucumbers this fall.

….He calls his farm the “First Fruits Farm.”

The Church (According To Christ)

From HisHolyChurch.org –

He came preaching the kingdom of God is at hand. To set men free in Spirit and in Truth from the bondage of this world and the next.

This was His good news, the gospel of the Kingdom, that the kingdom of God was at hand to set all men free from the elements of the world so that they may be free souls under God the Father of heaven and earth.

It was a system and a way that was based on faith, hope, and charity and the perfect law of love and liberty. His message was to bring peace and division. It was the salvation of the world.

The kingdom of God is “one form of government”.

How does the Kingdom of God differ from other governments?

What was this thing called the Church?

Was the early Church doing the same things as what we see the modern churches doing?

Jesus appointed a kingdom to His “little flock”, the apostles.

How does that kingdom relate to that early Church?

What was the role or purpose of that Church?

What should it look like and what should it be doing to fulfill its mission?

There are thousands of views and versions as to what the Church is and what it should be doing, but there is only one man who established the Church. The Church was established by Yahushua* the Messiah, a.k.a. Jesus the Christ. Only He can define the purpose and nature of this thing called the Church. It is His Creation, His appointed institution. It is His Holy Church.

Seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness

It is up to each of us to strive, seek, and find out what the Church is according to the intent of the one who established it.

How does it relate to us in our lives and in God’s plan for us?
